TAYLORS, S.C. – To benefit the South Carolina Special Olympics, FATZ®, home of the World Famous Calabash Chicken®, will be hosting a Calabash and Cops Tip-A-Cop event on April 29, 2011, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., and 5 – 8 p.m., at the restaurant on 4951 Centre Point Drive in North Charleston. Law enforcement officers will be seating and serving FATZ® guests in exchange for tips that will go directly to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the 21,400 Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina. Officers from Charleston law enforcement agencies including the Fraternal Order of Police Tri-County Lodge 3 will be participating in the event.
Law Enforcement Torch Run is an international
organization with the mission to raise awareness of and funds for
Special Olympics. In 2010, the Law Enforcement Torch Run raised
more than $450,000 to support year-round sports trainings and
competitions and looks to raise even more through the Calabash and
Cops Tip-A-Cop event.
Special Olympics is a year-round training and
competition sports organization for children and adults with
intellectual disabilities. Currently there are more than 21,400
athletes in South Carolina who train and compete in a choice of 23
different Olympics-type sports. The program is supported by more
than 12,000 volunteers annually. FATZ®
