TAYLORS, S.C. – To benefit the South Carolina Special Olympics, FATZ®, home of the World Famous Calabash Chicken®, will be hosting a Calabash and Cops Tip-A-Cop event on May 5, 2011, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., and 5 – 10 p.m., and May 6, 2011, from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m., at the restaurant on 2007 W. Lucas Street in Florence. Law enforcement officers will be seating and serving FATZ® guests in exchange for tips that will go directly to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the 21,400 Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina. Officers from the South Carolina Highway Patrol, Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office and City of Florence Police Department will be participating in the event.
On May 5, 2011, the Law Enforcement Torch Run
in Florence will begin at 9 a.m., at the
Florence City County Complex. The run will end at
FATZ® Florence, where the participants
will be cheered on at the finish line to kick off the Calabash and
Cops Tip-A-Cop event. The Law Enforcement Torch Run is an
international organization with the mission to raise awareness of
and funds for Special Olympics. In 2010, the grass roots
organization raised more than $450,000 to support year-round sports
trainings and competitions and looks to raise even more during
event at FATZ®.
Special Olympics is a year-round training and
competition sports organization for children and adults with
intellectual disabilities. Currently there are more than 21,400
athletes in South Carolina who train and compete in a choice of 23
different Olympics- type sports. The program is supported by more
than 12,000 volunteers annually.
