Calabash And Cops- Fatz Cafe Encourages Guests To Tip-a-cop To Benefit The Special Olympics December 30, 2010

TAYLORS, SC – To benefit the South Carolina Special Olympics, Fatz Cafe, home of the world famous Calabash Chicken, will be hosting a Calabash and Cops Tip-A-Cop event on Dec. 30, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., and Dec. 31, 2010, from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., at the Florence restaurant on 2007 West Lucas Street. The roles are reversed as guests of Fatz Cafe give cops orders as law enforcement officers seat and serve customers in exchange for tips that will go directly to support the 18,000 Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina. Officers from the Florence County Sheriff’s Office, Darlington County Sheriff’s Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol and City of Florence Police Department will be participating in the event.

Law Enforcement Torch Run is an international organization with the mission to raise awareness of and funds for Special Olympics. In 2010 Torch Run has raised more than $450,000 to support year-round sports trainings and competitions and looks to raise even more through the Calabash and Cops Tip-A-Cop event.

 

Special Olympics is a year-round training and competition sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Currently there are more than 18,000 athletes in South Carolina who train and compete in a choice of 23 different Olympics-type sports. The program is supported by more than 12,000 volunteers annually.

 

Fatz Cafe values the opportunity to strengthen its communities through giving back. In the past year, Fatz Cafe has raised more than $450,000 from 47 locations across five different states to benefit organizations ranging from local schools to The United Way.
