CALABASH AND COPS - FATZ® ENCOURAGES GUESTS TO TIP-A-COP TO BENEFIT THE SPECIAL OLYMPICS March 28, 2011

TAYLORS, SC – To benefit the South Carolina Special Olympics, FATZ®, home of the World Famous Calabash Chicken®, will be hosting a Calabash and Cops Tip-A-Cop event March 16 - 17, 2011, from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m., at the Lexington restaurant on 942 East Main Street. Law enforcement officers will be seating and serving FATZ® guests in exchange for tips that will go directly to support the Law Enforcement Torch Run and the18,000 Special Olympics athletes in South Carolina. Officers from the Town of Lexington Police Department and the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department will be participating in the event.

Law Enforcement Torch Run is an international organization with the mission to raise awareness of and funds for Special Olympics. In 2010, the Law Enforcement Torch Run raised more than $450,000 to support year-round sports trainings and competitions and looks to raise even more through the Calabash and Cops Tip-A-Cop event.

Special Olympics is a year-round training and competition sports organization for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Currently there are more than 18,000 athletes in South Carolina who train and compete in a choice of 23 different Olympics-type sports. The program is supported by more than 12,000 volunteers annually.

FATZ® values the opportunity to strengthen its communities through giving back. In the past year, FATZ® has raised more than $450,000 from 47 locations across five different states to benefit organizations ranging from local schools to The United Way.
