From humble peach shed beginnings, FATZ Cafe celebrates 25 delicious years June 17, 2014

Greer, SC – FATZ Cafe was born in a converted roadside peach shed in Spartanburg, South Carolina over 25 years ago. It was all about the simple things: southern hospitality and the taste of unique, unforgettable fried chicken. That’s where the World Famous Calabash Chicken® was born. Today, that same southern family hospitality and signature Calabash Chicken is served up daily at 46 restaurants across five states.

To celebrate the milestone, FATZ Cafe is going back to its peach roots. Guests will have the option to order off a 25th Celebration Menu, which includes a Red Peach Sangria, a Summer Spinach Salad with peaches, Baby Back Ribs basted in a sweet, smoky peach sauce and FATZ’s World Famous Calabash Chicken®. It introduces new entrees and pays tribute to favorites from the original peach shed location.

“Calabash Chicken was our inspiration to start FATZ Cafe, 25 years ago. Our goal was to serve authentic, craveable food for friends and family to enjoy.” said Chris Thomas, president and CEO of FATZ Cafe. “I’m proud to say that, 25 years later, our operating partners and associates are still delivering on that same premise every day.”

FATZ Cafe has certainly lived up to its mission to support the people and support its restaurants. In just the past six years, the company has helped dozens of local charities raise more than $2.5 million through its Saturday morning pancake breakfast fundraisers.

But, when you are in the restaurant business, the food is the most important thing.

“When FATZ opened its doors at the peach shed, the company was committed to two things: serving the freshest food and connecting with the community. Over twenty-five years later we still source some of our food from local farms and suppliers, and we are one hundred percent committed to delicious food and friendly service. It is all about southern family hospitality,” said Ted Nichols, operating partner of FATZ Spartanburg at Pottery Road.

Beginning this week, FATZ Cafe will be featuring the special menu which includes some original recipes from 1988. If you would like to setup an interview with a FATZ operating partner in your area, please contact me.
